The following EPA goals will be accomplished through a close collaboration between the SHP and project partners:
- Goal 1: Assist selected pilot hospitals in reducing their use of mercury-containing products and improving their management of mercury-containing wastes;
- Goal 2: Provide information on the amount of mercury-containing products and equipment used by hospitals and other healthcare facilities that can be reduced as a result of the project;and
- Goal 3: Develop technical skills and capacity to successfully replicate the knowledge in additional hospitals and countries.
Activities during 2009-2010 include training and implementation guidance; assessing current mercury use, policies, and practices; developing a mercury reduction how-to guide; and piloting a mercury-free product alternative.
