Biography
Dr. Sama is an occupational epidemiologist. She earned a Bachelors of Science in nursing in 1987. She then received a Masters (1990) and Doctorate (1996) in occupational epidemiology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Dr. Sama has more than 16 years of experience working in occupational health research. Areas of study have included: adult onset asthma, work-exacerbated asthma, pediatric asthma in relation to air toxics, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the acute pulmonary effects of exposure to metal working fluids and formaldehyde, occupationally related dermatitis, occupational lead registry, work related musculoskeletal disorders, occupational fatalities, and sharps injuries in home health care workers. Dr. Sama is Research Professor at the Department of Work Environment, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and has taught courses in Epidemiology as well as Toxicology and Health.
