The Lowell Center's Fellows Program nurtures and supports key people who are creative, thoughtful, socially conscious, and practical in promoting sustainable production and consumption.
Fellows in diverse institutions and countries provide a vital network through which Lowell Center approaches can be used throughout the world. Concepts such as sustainable production, toxics use reduction, the precautionary principle, and green chemistry are transforming the way people think about and respond to global environmental and health challenges.
Who Are Lowell Center Fellows?
The most important qualification for Lowell Center Fellows is that they have the capacity to make significant contributions to advancing the Lowell Center’s mission in their own field of work. They may come from a variety backgrounds such as: scientists/activists from developing countries; mid-career engineers and managers taking “industrial sabbaticals,” like-minded faculty from other universities (including social scientists/humanists); journalists; NGO and labor advocates; government officials; and alumni of the academic training programs at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Types of Lowell Center Fellows
Lowell Center Fellows have various types of relationships with the Lowell Center.
- Regional Fellows are colleagues in our geographic region with whom we have worked closely for several years.
- National Fellows are colleagues in other parts of the country with whom we collaborate on a regular basis. They may or may not be in residence with us for a period of time.
- International Fellows are colleagues in other parts of the world. They would almost always be in residence with us for some period of time.
